Bullying at School. How to fix it.
Sunday, December 6th, 2009My daughter has become the target of a local school bully. Crying, she came up to me for advice. Now, I’m a guy and we had our own ways to taking care of bullies at school we were young. After a few months, or even years of being bullied, we’d just walk up the bully and clock him out with an ambush like punch and continue to pummel him until he gave up. There might be a few skirmishes past that point, but usually the end, the bully would move off to softer targets.
My advice, and I’m not sure which is the best, is to just confront the girl and ask her why she said what she did, warn her not to say it again, and the next time there would be no warning. Just a quick ambush punch to the face and a continuation until the bully gives up.
Now, one huge caveat. This will probably take place in school. Now, I wish more than anything to be wrong, but here’s how the school administration will address the incident. The bully will walk free, and my daughter will end up paying a price for taking care of the bully. This is how schools haved addressed bullying. Schools only punish those children who feel they have no choice but to address bullies with violence as a last resort. Teachers will never address the bullies themselves. More than the wrath of the parents of the bullied, they fear the wrath of the parents of the bullies themselves.
I could contact the parents of the bully myself. But, you know how children and their parents are. The bully will say “letting your parents fight your battles?”. Or even worse from the parents themselves “My child would never bully another. He/She’s just a darling, sweet, little angel”. Right…. This actually happened with some white trash parents down the street. My daughter approached the parents of a former bully, and stated her case. To which the parent replied “Oh, just ignore him”. What? Well, my daughter did eventually do the right thing, and picked up a huge rock and chucked it towards his head. It missed, but the point was made. “This target is too tough”.
So, I hope I’m giving the best advice. As I told my daughter “What’s worse, a day’s worth of suspension, or a whole school year of being bullied“. I think the answer is quite easy.
